Course Summary
This course helps designers with basic web development skills improve their expertise with the newest, most requested web technologies and techniques. HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, PHP and mySQL feature prominently in this course as foundational tools that help web designers create modern, accessible, SEO-friendly sites that work well in any browser - including mobile! Students will learn the new features of HTML5 and CSS3 to improve the content and look of a website, how to make great mobile versions of a website, how to use AJAX and jQuery to create a better user experience, and how to move the final version of the site to a content management system (WordPress) so clients can safely update site content.

Day 1:
Using the new HTML5 tags as part of a "Content First!" attitude, Using the new CSS3 properties for great looking content, Feature detection with Modernizr, JavaScript to bring older browsers up to modern standards
Day 2:
Advanced CSS layouts and downloadable fonts, Video and Audio in HTML5 with Flash fallback, Drawing with the HTML5 Canvas tag, HTML5 form elements
Advanced Standards-Based Web Design Series Level 2 (6 hours)
Day 1:Options for mobile web compared, Creating mobile layouts for modern phones, Media queries for responsive design that changes with screen size and orientation
Day 2:jQuery for an improved web experience, Adding touch interface to web page for mobile, Geolocation for a delightful mobile user experience, Using HTML5 storage to create an "app"
Advanced Standards-Based Web Design Series Level 3 (6 hours)
Day 1:Core jQuery plugins that every designer needs to know, use and love, Customizing jQuery slideshows, sliders and lightboxes, Improving the form experience with jQuery, jQuery for improved navigation
Day 2:jQuery programming for designers - an easy introduction, AJAX for modifying page content, Creating Facebooks Apps
Advanced Standards-Based Web Design Series Level 4 (6 hours)
Day 1:Dynamic websites and Content Management System (CMS) options, Shopping carts and payment systems - how to find, choose and install, Introduction to the core technologies behind dynamic sites: PHP and mySQL, Converting a static website to WordPress
Day 2:Converting a static website to WordPress, Making WordPress Themes for fun and profit
