Creating a Custom Twitter Background Using Adobe Photoshop

One of the great things about social media is the ability to customize your brand in the socialsphere. Today I am going to walk you through how to create a custom Twitter background using Adobe Photoshop.

The three main keys to designing and implementing a great background are:

1. File size. 1500 x 800 px, 72 ppi, RGB are the optimum settings for the Photoshop Document.

2. File formats. Twitter only accepts PNG, JPG or GIF files.

3. File size (again) the maximum file size accepted by Twitter is 800 k. Double check your file size before you attempt an upload.

  1. Hi Jenny,

When creating your background in InDesign, you have to make sure you create a background image- either a large square or photo image the size that you need. Then export this out as a jpg image at 72 dpi. If you still get the same error in Safari, try opening it up in Photoshop and resaving using the Save for Web command. InDesign’s export has limited options.

    Thanks

    Kevin

Thanks for the tip. Can I do the same thing using Indesign? Or only photo shop? I tried it in Indesign and thought it was perfect…but then when I checked it out on Safari, the background came out black. It looked fine in Firefox.

    Am I doing something wrong?
